Workshop and presentation installation:
"super sonic soundscape shoes" by Ricardo Huisman

The artistic project “super sonic soundscape shoes” aims to explore new ways to engage with information gathering and knowledge production through artistic experiment, applying cognitive questions to corporeal and multisensory experience. As an interactive sound installation embedded in the general conference program, the artwork brings researchers and young scholars from various disciplines and research backgrounds together to discuss and raise questions regarding embodied knowledge and corporeal dimensions to cognition.

The red woollen "super sonic soundscape shoes" are an experimental, multi-sensorial and tactile interface producing articulated, narrative sound stories and more abstract soundscapes which are purposefully designed and composed in the context of the conference. The installation aims at triggering a higher state of attention for a sound habitat, a feeling of "being there", aural associations and expectations, corporeal and sensory memories and bodily sensations.

During the conference, the installation will be accessible in a ‘laboratory’-setting to the participants of the workshop. After having experienced the installation and its soundscapes – perceiving knowledge-information from an inside position – the visitors are welcome to share their experiences through written and recorded reports. At a presentation evening on Thursday 29 March at 6.15pm in the University Theatre, Ricardo Huisman will present some of the results of his work-in-progress and interact with the audience. This workshop evening is free and open to everyone.

This workshop is kindly sponsored by the NWO (Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research).
